Karin is a Co-Founder and General Partner of Blue Highway Capital. She has over 30 years of business experience as an attorney, executive and early stage investor. She spent five years as Vice President at Mass Ventures, an early stage socially responsible venture capital fund focused on urban and rural areas of Massachusetts. Mass Ventures was often the first investor in promising small businesses in areas where job creation was a key metric of the investment.
At Mass Ventures, Karin was responsible for twelve investments and was a member of six boards. In addition, she was also responsible for overseeing operations and staff and co-managing the private equity funds and a revolving loan fund, which were valued at more than $50 million.
Prior to co-founding Blue Highway, Karin served as Chair of CEI Ventures, a socially responsible impact private equity firm which manages funds totaling $35 million and served on the board of its parent company, Coastal Enterprises, Inc (CEI), a nonprofit lender and investor specializing in rural business and community development, financing and related policy with combined assets of $111 million.
From 2005 to 2007, Karin served as a venture advisor to Kimberly Clark’s venture capital arm, and served on the boards of several early stage companies in Maine and Massachusetts as an advisor. In 2006, Karin co-founded Furman, Gregory Deptula (FGD Law), a boutique law firm which represents early stage technology companies and inventive organizations throughout New England. She is also co-founder of CTM Ventures, a business accelerator based in New England and has been a private investor in several early stage companies through memberships in New England based angel groups.
Prior to her private equity experience, Karin worked in private law practice with several Boston based firms. She also served as in-house attorney at the Boston Department of Health and Hospitals where she was responsible for more than $110 million of grants and contracts and special projects. Karin also served as division director for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health where she managed a budget of more than $40 million.
Karin has extensive contacts throughout the region’s technology, business, and civic communities. She is active in a number of relevant industry and professional organizations and is frequently a guest speaker at many private equity events throughout the New England area.
Karin holds a B.A. degree from Wells College, an M.P.H. from Boston University in Health Services, and a J.D. degree from UNH School of Law, as well as a certificate in Advanced Licensing. Karin is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts and in Maine.
